This is poetry Central where I post and discuss poetry, one of my passions, and I hope you enjoy some of what I present here. I plan to change the content from time to time, so check back.

Julia – Robert Herrick (1591 – 1674)

WHENAS in silks my Julia goes
Then, then (methinks) how sweetly flows
That liquefaction of her clothes.

Next, when I cast mine eyes and see
That brave vibration each way free;
Oh how that glittering taketh me!

Why So Pale and Wan Fond Lover – Sir John Suckling (1609 – 1642)

WHY so pale and wan, fond lover?
Prithee, why so pale?
Will, when looking well can’t move her,
Looking ill prevail?
Prithee, why so pale?

Why so dull and mute, young sinner?
Prithee, why so mute?
Will, when speaking well can’t win her,
Saying nothing do ‘t?
Prithee, why so mute?

Quit, quit for shame! This will not move;
This cannot take her.
If of herself she will not love,
Nothing can make her:
The devil take her!

Success Is Counted Sweetest – Emily Dickinson (1830 – 1886)

Success is counted Sweetest
By those who ne’er succeed.
To comprehend a nectar
Requires sorest need.

Not one of all the purple Host
Who took the Flag today
Can tell the definition
So clear of victory
As he defeated – dying –
On whose forbidden ear
The distant strains of triumph
Burst agonized and clear!

Options – Bobill Weaver – (1934 – )

Dragged myself this Morning
To the edge of my bed –
To peer out over the precipice
And ponder my Mortal options:
Stay and sleep – or Leap?
These infernal, eternal options
Were of no little Moment –
At that Moment –
One might say,
Because, I had not at
That Moment read –
The Obits for the day!
