The tweets below which I copied directly from the President’s Twitter Feed are the only statements that I can find from the President at this time about the two tragic shootings in El Paso, TX and Dayton, OH. The tweets are presented in reverse chronological order. They are not what is expected from a President who is normally forceful and loquacious in matters of interest to him. Furthermore, during the 48-hour period during last Saturday and Sunday July 27 and 28) the President managed to whip out 35 tweets which averages 17 tweets per 24-hour period, and several of them were slams at Congressman Elijah Cummings of Maryland. However, he has managed to squeeze out a meager 5 tweets in the 27-hour period since the tragic shooting in El Paso began Saturday morning. At this moment of tragedy, we the people of American need a leader who will appeal to our better angels and will bring us together as one nation under God.’ Please see the verse that follows the tweets. I would love to see your thoughts on the way President Trump is handing this tragedy – favorable or not so much.

Well Bill, would there be anything that Trump says or does ever be enough,,,anything anything at all?
It really is not in his jurisdiction,, but
I think he saw that the situation was being handled properly by local and state authorities. It should be handled locally, with the help of the Federal Government if requested. I cant find anything that says Texas or Ohio requested the Feds help.

Dan, thanks for the comment, but let’s stick to the subject at hand – Trump’s puny and non-specific responses to two shooting tragedies in less that 24 hours. In the last hour Trump has posted two tweets about his authorization to fly American flags at half mast. That’s what every president does in dozens of cases – like when a congressman dies. What I want to see and is the President come before the American people (or even tweet) and admit that that things have gotten out hand and that he aims to try to do something about it. I’ll be a little surprised if you respond that it’s not the president’s moral and patriotic duty to do that. You can bet that at this moment he’s trying with all his might, either alone or with others, to come up with the right thing to say, but his temperament will make it extremely difficult to address this epidemic of violence in a non-political way.

GW: If Obama said the same I’m sure a lot of people would be singing praises. What exactly would be acceptable of a president? What can anyone say about crazy people? During these tragic events people often expect someone to “do something” about it. What would you do that would fall within your power.
I have never seen this country so divided as it is now and it started long before Trump decided to run for office. Division of our people is the real problem and it’s going to cause more people to go off the deep end.

It points out what I and many other Americans would expect of any president at this moment of tragedy – lead by example. GW: I guess I don’t expect presidents to “handle” tragedies like these. What can be done besides tossing out a few words? These are crises which are being handled by local law enforcement. I guess I’m missing what is supposed to be done. It would be different if some outside force came in and attacked us. I would expect him to authorize necessary actions. But remember that the president is part of the executive branch and not the legislative branch. I think we’ve forgotten the role of the latter as so much legislation lately has been handled by the judicial branch. The legislators have not been doing their jobs lately.
I think there is so much support and anger for this president that many of us are looking to him to either save us or to cast blame. I don’t think that’s his job, especially when there are so many forces out there trying to divide us. Russia being a big one and there are others I shall not mention publicly. We need unification but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
BW: Based on what you just posted, Glenn, I believe that the President should address the American people on national television and let them know he understands how they feel and that he will do every thing in his power to quell this string of violent killings, and that will include asking congress to begin hearings immediately to discover the primary causes of the problem and to come up with legislation to that purpose. In my opinion, the President can do no less. This does not come out of anger or hatred for the President. It comes out of belief that actions can be taken to improve this dangerous situation. Presidents from early times have had to deal with many more domestic threats than those from foreign countries. Check your history to see how presidents have dealt with all manner of domestic problems over the years. Please leave any further comments at the blog site.
GW: If the problem were that easy then someone would have make the recommendations already. Seriously, what laws could have been enacted that would have prevented (pick your own mass shooting)? I’ll give you a head start. Ban all guns immediately and start confiscation. I’m being serious. Start with that scenario and work backwards. Trump is not a great speaker. I think we can all agree on that. So to expect him to make us feel better, in a time when many people don’t even want to see his face, hear his voice, or be reminded that he is still president.
I seriously don’t think there would be widespread support for him if he came up with the cure for (insert your disease here). I think we are that divided and I think this division is causing some people to do things they wouldn’t otherwise. I don’t know if any of that played parts in these latest or any mass shootings. I just know many people on both sides are charged up and I think there are people and organizations who want our people just that way.

I don’t think those that support Trump or those that dislike him will ever agree. If you take away the guns of Americans that leaves the good people of this country defenseless and puts the guns only in the hands of killers and thugs. I seldom get in arguments about politics – it just seems to cause more problems. I do not care for Trump – most comments from him cause strife and his comments are very childish.

Glenn – I just watched a few minutes ago on television as President Trump was uniting the people in his own special way – at a political rally. What explanation would do this justice?
“It’s an invasion” the President proclaims (speaking of caravans coming from Mexico).” “What do we do it about?” the President asks. “Shoot em”, someone in the audience yells, and the President, smiles approvingly and gloats – then after awhile says, “only in the panhandle [Texas] only in the panhandle can you get away with that.”
